The Libertarian Paradise of East Somalia! No gummint, no revenooers, no code enforcement, no code inspectors. You can live or die free from rules, laws, and anyone telling you what to do!

Obama and creeping socialism?!? I wish. And it’s remarkable how many Teatotalitarians are vying for their chance to live in public housing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the National Observatory.

Think Paul Ryan as a current example.

    Otherwise known as plutocratic oligarchy.

That is what we’ve come to though, isn’t it? On the GOP side especially, their campaign promises boil down to, “Send me to DC where I promise I won’t lift a finger to help run this country. In fact, I’ll do my best to dismantle the whole shebang — while collecting a handsome salary, generous benefits, a guaranteed pension, and the likelihood of extreme wealth in the private sector after I retire — all the things you rubes would love to have but will never get.”

Reagan is indeed answerable for a lot. Didn’t he once voice the loathsome idea that the most frightening words one could hear was, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you?”

What’s particularly grotesque about this anti-government sentiment as expressed by right-wing politicians is that it’s completely hypocritical for multiple reasons, first and foremost that it is being voiced by politicians. They are not against government, they are government! Many of them have done nothing else in their lives but run for office. Yet they pretend somehow that they aren’t part of Washington, that they’re just plain-spoken, ordinary American citizens reluctantly called forth to public service like Cincinnatus being dragged away from his farm to save the Republic. And people buy it! It’s been one of the Republican Party’s greatest successes, really: convincing people that “government” is a label that applies only to their political enemies.

We need to understand that socialism is only for the 1%,

  10. BeccaM says:

I guess we shouldn’t be all that surprised at the wingnuts’ absolutist anti-government attitudes. They were brought up on those toxic notions going back to 1980 and Reagan’s “government isn’t the solution, it’s the problem” campaign slogans.

Couple that with carefully indoctrinated ignorance and an active rejection of critical thinking, and we get these morons who use public parks, drive on public roads, send their kids to public schools (well, most of ’em), use public water and sewage systems, eat their gov’t inspected foods, receive (or plan to receive) Social Security and Medicare, and fully expect the cops and firefighters to show up when needed — yet never seem to connect these things with the proper functions of a working government.

but do Somalians deserve all that filth coming to their shores?

  12. S1AMER says:

So can we send the entire American anti-government crowd to the libertarian paradise of Somalia? Lord knows, many of them deserve the joys of cholera!

  13. tsuki says:

And now you have cholera. Thank you for the laugh.
