Ever wonder what it’s like to ski jump? (video)

Between my dislike of heights plus my preference for mild weather, this would not be in the cards for me but it’s still fun to watch from the perspective of this Norwegian ski jumper.

All I could think about is how many broken and dislocated bones I would have by the time I reached the bottom of the hill. Well, provided I actually safely make it down the ski jump itself without crashing.

thanks that was cool.. I found the top of the ramp the scariest part, on video at least the actual jump doesn’t seem so scary because you’re not that far off the ground by then

So got to youtube and watch it. It’s pretty good. I used to do this in high school, back in the early 60s, but never on a hill bigger than the 90 meter at Brattleboro, VT, and it was a lot safer than what the downhill racers faced. Jumpers have a groomed hill all to themselves, and the landing hill is curved in such a way as to land you gently unless you’re one of those hotshots who’s landing way down in the transition where the hill starts flattening out. And they start you out as a kid, when you think you’re immortal, and you still have rubber bones.
