Stephen Colbert weighs in on Star Wars lightsaber controversy (video)

The promo teaser for the new Star Wars movie came out and primo Star Wars Stephen Colbert has weighed in on the controversy over the new lightsaber in the movie.

You see, the saber has two little mini-sabers coming out from the handle.

I knew Colbert was a huge Lord of the Rings fan, but had no idea about Star Wars.

This is really cute, and fun.

It’s science! Any paduan knows that!

Even though I saw the first Star Wars movie the day it opened in 1977, Colbert is and will always be two years ahead of me in fandom.

I realized the other day why I (and so many others) love watching Colbert so much. Yes, he’s funny. Yes, it’s one of the most brilliant and brilliantly executed comic personas in a long time. But more than anything else, I don’t think anyone has ever enjoyed having their own tv show even half as much as he obviously does. The sheer joy he displays running over to interview a guest reminds you of a dog with his favorite squeaky toy. He couldn’t be happier and it’s a joy to watch someone not only get the success they deserve but to clearly enjoy it and appreciate it so much. I hope he does as well on his new show. If not we’ll happily take him back.
